A suspicious object has been found in Derry following the arrest of four men in connection with dissident republican activity.

A number of residents of Foyle Road were temporarily evacuated after the discovery of the object.

Most have now returned but the Foyle Road remains closed causing traffic disruption for people travelling in from Letterkenny Road this morning.

The object was found after the arrest of four men - including a 16-year-old boy - in the area last night (Tuesday).

Police say the men were arrested under the Terrorism Act. The men are being questioned in Antrim PSNI station in relation to dissident republican activity.

Police say a firearm was also discovered during the arrests.
