Teenager killed in crash on Derry to Buncrana road is named

The teenager who died in a road traffic collision on the main cross-border Derry to Buncrana road on Sunday has been named locally as Martin Strain.

The 19-year-old, who is from the Burnfoot area, was killed in the single vehicle collision which happened at around 4.30am on Sunday morning at Tooban, near Burnfoot, in Co Donegal.

Investigating gardai said Mr Strain,, who was a passenger in the car, died after the vehicle careered off the road.

The male driver and a female passenger, both aged 19, were taken to Letterkenny General Hospital.

It is understood the woman has undergone surgery and her condition is described as serious.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses or anyone who was travelling on the main Buncrana to Derry Road, or in the vicinity of Tooban to contact them at Buncrana Garda Station on (00353) 74 - 9320540, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
