An 18-year-old man was today being treated in hospital after being shot five times in the legs in Creggan last night.
The teenager was subjected to the paramilitary style attack in the Rathlin Drive area.
A PSNI spokesman today confirmed: “Shortly after 11.20pm, it was reported that an 18 year-old-male received three gun shot wounds to his right leg and two gunshot wounds to his left leg.
“He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment to his injuries, that are not believed to be life threatening. Enquiries are continuing.”
Detectives in Foyle are appealing for anyone with information about the shooting or who witnessed the episode to come forward..
The spokesman said: “Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact CID at Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.
“Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
