The winner of the ‘Derry Journal’ Cafe of the Year competition is The Quay Cafe on Strand Road.

Coming in second was the Guild Cafe at the Guildhall and in third place was The Scullery, Waterloo Place.

The winning cafes were voted for by readers of the ‘Derry Journal’ and K-Leigh Donaghey, owner of The Quay Cafe which only opened five months ago said she and her husband Liam were overwhelmed with the news that they had won the award.

“It is really great, we are so delighted,” she said.

The Quay Cafe employs three waiting staff and two chefs, serving a full breakfast and grill menu seven days a week.

The Donagheys previously worked in beauty and gardening but taking on a cafe was a completely new business venture for them.

“It has been a big challenge but we have been really busy,” said K-Leigh.

“The business had changed hands before so we decided to go for a complete facelift.

“Winning this award is amazing because it was voted for by the public.

“Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen. We appreciate all your continued support.”

“Thank you to all our local suppliers for their services and also to our fabulous chefs. The food speaks for itself.” You can find out more about the cafe at www.facebook.com
