Details of the Easter Youth Programme for St Johnston and Carrigans Family Resource Centre. 1 April from 10.30 to 11.30 am there will be an Egg Hunt and Fun Day. This is for 3 to 5 year olds. The time for 6 to 8 year olds is 1.30 to 2.30 pm. 9 to 12 year olds, 3 to 4 pm. Parents must register all children for the events above. Registration day will be Friday 27 March in the Centre from 9.30 am to 4pm. Fee is €2.
The Homework Club and Fun Club at the Centre or 3rd or 4th class will return 13 April 2015 as will the Girl’s Club. Activity Clubs will resume on 16 April.
There will be a trip to Jump Lanes in Derry on April 2. It is for 5 to 8 year olds and it is €10 per person including meal. Leaving the Resource Centre 11 am and returning about 3 pm. There will be another trip on 8 April for 9 to 12 year olds. €10 per person including meal. Leaving the Resource Centre 11 am and returning about 3 pm. Please register for these trips on Friday 27 March at the Centre between 9.30 to 4 pm.
If you have any items associated with the Glentown Quarry, photos, articles, oral tradition etc, please leave a message at the centre. It is hoped that anybody who can help may be able to arrange to meet with Mr Holmes who is researching this subject at the centre or elsewhere.
The Walk & Talk Group’s next Saturday walk will be tomorrow to Ards Forest Park. A bus will leave the centre at 9 am. We will return at approximately 3.30pm. To book a place contact the Resource Centre on 9148551. People from outside the area are welcome to come along. €5 per head. There will be an opportunity to eat out after the walk. A shorter walk is available if you wish as all speeds will be catered for.
John’s Tractor Run will take place tomorrow. Registration from 9.30 am. Leaving at 11 am sharp. Proceeds in aid of Ballyduff Community Group, Lifford. Cost is €10 per tractor. Starting from Maggie’s Tavern, Carrickmore, St Johnston.
Scoil an Leinbh Iosa, Coxtown, Carrigans, in association with Lifford Athletics Club is holding a 5k walk/run for the AED on Saturday 11 April. Registration from 8.30 am. Race starts at 10 am. Entry fee is €5 per adult. €3 per child. Family ticket is €20. There will be post-race refreshments.
The annual Easter Craft Fayre and Car Boot Sale will be held at St Johnston Presbyterian Church Hall and Car Park on Easter Saturday 4 April. Gates open from 11 am to 4.30 pm. There will be a car boot sale, collectables and antiques and much much more. Admission is free. All proceeds will go towards Church funds. For more information, please call 91 48198 or 91 48133.
The free information leaflet for tourists is available again in the Centre. Please pick up a copy. It is called Roadtrip From Dunmore to Longvale. It was launched last year to promote interest in the area against the backdrop of heritage. It was produced by the History Links Group.
The Centre would like to ask if people would consider bringing in old photographs of village life in St Johnston and Carrigans to be copied or scanned and if anybody would like to submit any old stories or poems from yesteryear so that we can keep a unique record of life in the area from years gone by. St Baithin’s Conference of St Vincent de Paul Society for the St Johnston and Carrigans are, will be holding the special annual collection for Uganda this weekend at St Baithin’s Church, St Johnston. All proceeds will fund educational and agricultural projects. Please give generously.
