Thieves steal charity money after breaking into florist’s

Heartless thieves have stolen hundreds of pounds worth of charity money from a local flower shop.

The thieves struck some time between the shop being locked up on Saturday evening and Sunday night.

Caroline Lynch of Flower Craft in the Springtown Shopping Centre revealed that no takings were in the shop but the thieves had emptied charity boxes which they had locked away in the office.

The money was being collected for local charities Foyle Parents and Friends and the Foyle Special Olympics. Money that had been collected for Long Tower Mass cards was also taken during the robbery.

“I opened the door and couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” said Caroline. “The boxes had just been emptied.

“It was just awful. We believe the thieves came in through the window.”

Police have visited the shop and collected forensic evidence. They are appeailng for anyone with any information to contact them by calling the 101 non-emergency number, or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
