Thousands gather for the Foyle Cup parade

Waiting for Video...

Thousands of people have gathered in Derry’s city centre to cheer on the parade of young footballers taking part in the 2014 Hughes Insurance Foyle Cup.

The junior players from across Ireland, Britain and beyond created a colourful spectacle as they formed up in their team rigs at Ebrington on Tuesday morning for the launch of the tournament.

Some of the players chanted team songs and waved banners as proud relatives and onlookers cheered them along the route from the Peace Bridge up through the town and down Shipquay Street into Guildhall Square.

Marching bands and pipers led the various segments of the parade, and despite the odd cloud putting in an appearance the rain stayed away for the duration of the parade.

The Foyle Cup this week will see thousands of young boys and girls testing their skills at playing pitches across Derry and the north west.

Check out our two videos of the parade (part one and part two) on www.derryjournal.com and on Facebook and Twitter @derryjournal.
