A man from Derry has become the second person arrested on suspicion of manslaughter over the death of a man in a shipping container in the UK.

Police have confirmed a 33-year-old man from the city was arrested after voluntarily attending a police station.

The man who died was one of 35 people from Afghanistan, 15 of them children, found at Tilbury Docks on Saturday last.

The group had arrived in the UK on a ship from Belgium and were said to be victims of human trafficking.

It is thought they had travelled by lorry from Afghanistan. The suspect has also been arrested on suspicion of facilitating illegal entry into the UK.

A 34-year-old man from Limavady was also arrested yesterday on suspicion of manslaughter in connection with the same incident.

He was arrested on the main Dublin to Belfast A1 at Banbridge in Co Down.

Both men are also being questioned on suspicion of facilitating illegal entry into the UK.
