Amazing American guitarist Thom Bresh has just been confirmed for the 2011 Inishowen International Guitar Festival which takes place on the peninsula on the weekend of April 8th.-10th.
Thom Bresh, who is son of the legendary Merle Travis and whose set contains many of the Travis classic pieces including Cannonball Rag, is joining what promises to be a unique and impressive gathering of some of the best guitarists anywhere in the World ranging from The Woodstock and local legend, Henry McCullough and Van Morrison guitarist Arty McGlynn to the bluesy bottleneck playing of Johnny Dickinson and hauntingly beautiful, Celtic tinged stlye of Clive Carroll.
Ramelton based guitar player and singer Paul Buckley also joins the line up as well as the amazing 13 year old jazz playing Andraes Varaday and the Dublin based Cosmopolitan Guitar Quartet which features the playing of Dave Flynn, Hugh Buckley, John Feeley and African guitarist Niwl .
Singer songwriter Nick Harper makes a special appearance with support from Una Mc Cann and Ciara Butcher with a first time guitar festival appearance of up and coming guitar genius Shane Hennessey
This years events take the form of school workshops in Moville Community College and Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana on Friday 8th. whilst later that evening the first of the concerts take place in The Backroom at Mc Grory’s in Culdaff.
Saturday 9th. features an all-day guitar trade show in the Wee Hall, Culdaff with various guitar workshops also taking place there throughout the day. The Backroom at Mc Grory’s will be the venue for a number of concert performances throughout Saturday afternoon and evening also.
Sunday 10th. sees the continuation of the trade show and workshops in the Wee Hall whilst in Mc Grory’s a further series of concert performances take place.
Following on from the overwhelming success of last year’s vintage guitar and amp exhibition, the festival are delighted to announce that they have secured an even more comprehensive collection for this year’s display which takes place in Mc Grory’s Restaurant on the afternoon of Sunday 10th.
