Tractor enthusiasts from across Inishowen received a treat earlier this month thanks to students of Carndonagh Community School.
On Sunday, 11th January last the school carpark was invaded by tractors in what was a fundraiser with a difference.
This ‘invasion’ was a well organised and happy one despite the awful weather experienced on the day.
Approximately 40 tractors turned up for a sponsored drive to Buncrana and back as a fundraiser for the school’s current development project .
The project includes a PE changing and shower rooms, toilet facilities, a gym and fitness suite.
The Tractor Run was the brainchild of Eamonn Harkin and Luke McCarron, who organised and managed the entire event.
The tractors even included some vintage machines from the 1950s.
The school Principal, Paul Fiorentini was really impressed with the turnout, the good humour of the tractor owners - many of whom were past pupils - in such awful weather, but most of all with the dedication and the organisational skills of Eamonn and Luke.
He said it took “great imagination, initiative and enthusiasm to manage the project.”
The event also displayed the great technical and engineering skills of the men involved in maintaining the tractors to such high spec and was a great representation of the farming tradition in Inishowen.
All the drivers returned to the school for refreshments after the event.
The funds raised will be “put to good use.”
