A Derry councillor has warned traffic problems in the Shantallow area of the city are an accident waiting to happen.
SDLP councillor Angela Dobbins said she has already spoken to the Department of Regional Development about the problems at the Glengalliagh Rd/Bradley Pass and Racecourse Road junctions but said immediate action is needed.
“Traffic and pedestrian usage has increased in the surrounding area due to the development of Bradley Pass Housing, development of former Marian Hall and the upgrade of Leafair Sports Pavilion.
“The response from DRD that additional traffic lights will be installed after the redevelopment of Northside Centre is just not good enough.
“There has been an increase in the number of traffic accidents occurring in this area and it will not be long before there is a tragedy,” she said.
Ms Dobbins has urged the “DRD to deal with these on-going issues as a matter of priority.
“The SDLP will continue to make representations to Roads Service until this road is made safer for all road users,” she said.
