An additional Derry to Coleraine train is to be added to the existing timetable in the New year.
Stormont Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy today said the new afternoon service- leaving Derry shortly after 4pm - will commence on January 6.
An existing bus service from Coleraine to Waterside Station will be withdrawn at the same time.
“I am pleased to be able to confirm that Translink has added an additional return train to operate between Coleraine and Londonderry from 6 January 2014,” the Minister said.
“Translink have identified an opportunity to further enhance the train service during the evening peak Mondays to Fridays. This additional train offers passengers even more flexibility for those who commute in both directions.
“With around 7,000 people already using this section of the line every week, this new service will make this route even more attractive to use for North West commuters. I know this will be widely welcomed by all those passengers who use this important service.”
The additional train service will leave Derry at 16.13, then Castlerock at 16.52 and arrive in Coleraine at 17.01. The return service will leave Coleraine at 17.55, then Castlerock at 18.08 and will arrive in Derry at 18.42.
As a result the number of trains operating on the Coleraine to Derry line will increase from 59 each way per week to 64 each way per week.
