Pedestrians are being put in danger by motorists ignoring temporary traffic lights on the Lone Moor Road, a local councillor has claimed.
Sinn Féin councillor Patricia Logue made the claim after being contacted by a number of local residents over the weekend who said drivers are ignoring the traffic lights which are in place while road works are carried out in the area.
Colr. Logue said; “I have been made aware of concerns from local residents and motorists at the potential dangers being posed by a small number of motorists who are ignoring temporary traffic lights in place at the junction of Southway/Lone Moor Road. The lights are there to facilitate major road works taking place due to the replacement of the sewerage system.
“Whilst there is understandable frustration at the limited time afforded by the lights system to motorists I would still appeal to drivers not to ignore the lights.
“The dangers to pedestrians and other motorists are obvious on a narrow roadway such as the Lone Moor Road and I would urge drivers not to allow their frustrations to heighten the potential for accidents,” she said.
