THE body of missing Derry teenager Sean McNair has been found.
More than 100 people joined the search for the 17-year-old at Lough Swilly, Co Donegal, yesterday, where his body was found by divers at around 3.20pm.
Thirty boats and three dive teams scoured the waters, while a number of coastal shore teams, including local residents, searched the beaches.
It was members of the Dundalk dive team who recovered the body.
Sean was last seen at Rathmullen Pier on the lough at around 1.30am on Saturday, July 16.
It is believed he had been at a birthday celebration and was with a group of friends when they went swimming.
It is understood they found themselves in difficulty close to the pier, where the water was deep and the current very strong.
His friends tried to hold on to Sean, but had to let him go because they were being scraped by barnacles on the pier.
Manus Patten, of Malin Head Coastguard in Donegal, said there had been “a huge turnout” to search for the teenager, from Rinmore Drive in Creggan.
“We can confirm that a body has been found. He was taken to Letterkenny Hospital for identification and the family has been informed.
“This was a huge operation and it must be a relief for the family that after a week, it has finally come to an end.”
Last week, Sean’s mother Jackie said she wanted to get her son “out of the water” so she could lay him to rest
