Traffic calming for Lower Ballynagard Rd

Sinn Féin Councillor Tony Hassan has welcomed confirmation that traffic calming measures are to be installed in the Lower Ballynagard Road area of the city.

Consultation will now begin on the proposals over the coming weeks.

Colr. Hassan said: “We have been campaigning for these for some time and have been in negotiations with Transport NI for 18 months regarding the need, and installation, of traffic calming measures.

“TransportNI has now been in contact to let us know that they will be installing these calming measures and it is now out for consultation.

“Once this is complete, TransportNI will be back in contact with a proposed start date and confirmation of the traffic calming measures that they will be installing.”

Colr. Hassan added: “As soon as we have this information I will inform residents of their proposed actions and we think this will happen later on this year, the area that will be affected is from the Culmore Road area to Ballynagard Crescent.

Meanwhile, the Department for Transport has confirmed that a £100,000 resurfacing and reconstruction scheme is to commence on the A2 Clooney Road at Maydown Roundabout.

The scheme will start on Friday, March 10 and completion is planned for Friday, March 24.

To help ensure the safety of road users and contractors, a contra-flow system will operate between March 10 and 13 and there will be lane closures from Tuesday 14 to Friday 24 from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

A department spokesperson said that the works have been carefully programmed to minimise any inconvenience. However, motorists are advised to expect delays and additional time should be allowed for journeys.
