Tributes have been paid to the late Eilish Logue, widow of IRA man Gerard Logue, following her death at the weekend.
Mrs Logue, who lived in the Lisfannon Park area, died on Saturday afternoon. Her death came as republicans across the city prepared to commemorate the 25th anniversary of her late husband, Gerard, who died on active service in 1987.
Foyle Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson, a lifelong friend of Eilish Logue, said; “She was a real gentle and genuine person. There is a wide community of republicans that are mourning her passing.
“There is a recognition across the republican family that she had suffered because of the conflict. She was left to bring up a family on her own and she did more than her best with her boys, who loved her deeply and cared for her so well. She was a friend to many. We grew up together on the Lecky Road and I have fond memories of when we were younger, playing together.”
