Tributes have been paid to Strabane man Joe McGarrigle, who has passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer.
The 33-year-old died in the early hours of Friday morning surrounded by his family.
Following his diagnosis with an aggressive form of nasopharyngeal cancer in 2011, Mr McGarrigle’s family launched a major fundraising drive to send him to China for life saving treatment.
The appeal raised in excess of £100,000 and was used to fund trips to China’s Next Generation Clinic where Mr McGarrigle received cutting edge treatment.
The treatment was initially successful, however the cancer returned last year and subsequently spread.
A Facebook post announcing Mr McGarrigle’s death said: ‘He remained positive throughout all of it and despite terrible pain and discomfort at times, he never stopped fighting right up until his last breath, which is exactly why he inspired so many people during his time here with us’. ‘Joseph inspired and continues to inspire so many people and his positive attitude and general feelings on how to live life will continue to do so’.
