Tributes paid to the late Gordon Fulton aka '˜Sammy the Barman'

Gordon famously played ‘Sammy,’ chief bar steward of the fictional ‘Kneebreakers’ pub in the BBC series, ‘Give My Head Peace.’

Among his other credits, were roles on the original Scottish police procedural, ‘Taggart,’ in the 1980s.

Gilly Campbell, drama officer at the Arts Council, tweeted: “Very sad to hear that Gordon Fulton has died. A mighty actor and a gentleman. My thoughts are with his family. RIP.”

The Centre Stage Theatre Company also paid the following tribute: “It is with huge sadness, we announce the loss of such a close friend and wonderful actor Gordon Fulton. You’ll be truly missed. #RIPGordon.”

And Universal Artists tweeted: “RIP sammy the barman.....talented, funny and gentleman actor Gordon Fulton.”

The Bangor-native, who has lived in Derry for decades, is mourned by his wife Ann, sons Jonny and James, grand-daughter Imogen, and daughter-in-law Elaine.

The funeral will be leaving his home at 27c Northland Road on Tuesday at 11am for requiem mass in St Patrick’s Church, Pennyburn at 11.30am.
