Police have confirmed that two men have been arrested following an aggravated burglary in the Glenabbey area of Derry on Monday morning.

At 5.40am today, police received a report that a 25-year-old man had been assaulted in his own home by two other men.

The man required hospital treatment to a head injury but has since been discharged.

Police said two men were believed to have made off in a dark coloured car and drove in the direction of the Skeoge roundabout.

Detective Sergeant Brian Reid said: “Detectives investigating this incident later carried out a search at premises in the Ardnamoyle Park area and have seized a car for further examination while the two men, aged 26 and 23, were arrested in the Carnhill area shortly before 11am.

“Both men have been arrested on suspicion of gbh with intent, aggravated burglary and possession of an offensive weapon and currently remain in custody assisting police with their enquiries.

“While we have the two arrests, I would still appeal to anyone who knows anything about this incident to contact detectives at Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 140 of 14/11/16.

“Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
