US Navy Association to hold reunion in Derry

The United States Navy Londonderry Alumni Association is holding its gala reunion later this month in Derry, reports Peter Hutcheon.

It will be the third time the association has returned to the city to hold its reunion which they do every four years following events in 2003 and 2007.

Membership of the Alumni Association is open to all US Navy sailors and civilians from Derry who worked at the Derry Navy Base.

A spokesman for the organisation said: “The reunion will see the return to Derry of many U.S. Navy sailors who served at the US Navy base in Derry between the years 1942 through to 1977. Membership in the Alumni Association is open to all U.S. Navy sailors and Derry civilians who worked at the Derry Navy Base, so we will have a wonderful group of Navy sailors and Derry civilians in attendance for our reunion celebrations.”

Three main events are planned for the reunion which will be based at the Tower Hotel in the city.

It will open with a members opening night reception on July 25, continue with a grand gala reception for members and guests on July 27 and close with a dinner dance on July 31.

The Alumni Association was formed in the summer of 2000, by Jim Sullivan, Dennis Kolodziej, Ted Nevels, and John Reigle, for the purpose of reuniting those sailors and civilians, and their families, who served at the U.S. Naval Communication Station in Derry during its years of operation, 1942 through 1977.

The Alumni Association is incorporated in the State of Louisiana as a non-profit corporation.Derry members of the Alumni Association wishing to attend any of these events, should contact in Derry: Mr Ted Malcor by phone: 028-7134-6095, or mobile 078-5865-5774.
