This Sunday the annual Foyle Hospice male walk/run will snake its way through the city.
Hundreds of families will represent their loved ones who have undergone battles with cancer in order to raise funds for the Foyle Hospice.
Among those participating are family and friends of well known Derry bar man, the late Patsy McGowan.
Patrons of the Bogside Inn and Mason’s Bar will recall the Lisfannon Park man with fondness.
Patsy’s son, George explained: “A number of our friends and relatives will be completing the walk to commemorate daddy’s first anniversary on October 1st. We lost daddy a year ago but it seems like yesterday. I have to say my father stayed in the Hospice three times and we couldn’t be more thankful for the support they provided. They were simply a God send. We are indebted to the Foyle Hospice.
“My sister, Catherine and I had little experience of the disease when daddy was diagnosed. The help, support and advice the Hospice gave us was second to none.
“This event raises money for a great cause, we would urge any of my father’s friends or former colleagues to get involved and help this worthy cause.”
The 9th Annual Foyle Hospice Male Walk/Run starts at 1:30pm in Sainsburys Car Park on Sunday. There is a five and two mile route available.
All proceeds go to the Foyle Hospice.
