A Derry tour guide who has raised more than £150,000 for the Foyle Hospice is to donate the proceeds of his tours next Saturday to the charity.
Martin McCrossan has declared November 2 ‘Walk for Foyle Hospice Day’ with the proceeds of all tours given to Foyle Hospice.
Martin explained: “This November marks the 20th anniversary of Derry City Tours. I’ve always been a big supporter of Foyle Hospice and supporting it is the best way I know of celebrating our aniversary.”
In May, Martin was presented with the Local Tourism Hero award by NITB. The award acknowledges an individual’s involvement and impact on local tourism and it’s the latest in a long line of awards for the popular 51 year old Derry man who has escorted celebrities such as Will Ferrell and Susan Boyle around the city’s historic walls.
Derry’s Mayor Councillor Martin Reilly said: “I’m delighted to be able to support Martin’s Foyle Hospice Walk. He’s helped put Derry on the tourist map and it’s a wonderful way of raising money for the hospice.”
Ciaran McGinley of Foyle Hospice added: “To date, Martin has raised over £150,000 for Foyle Hospice and has been a true stalwart in his fundraising efforts for the hospice down through the years. This is a fantastic gesture by Martin.
For those of you out there who have never been on a walking tour of the city then I would strongly recommend coming along on Saturday, November 2, and listening to Martin’s indepth expert knowledge. The tour lasts 1 hour and the cost will be £4 of which all monies on that day will be donated to Foyle Hospice. The tours will depart from 11 Carlisle Road which is beside Foyleside Shopping Centre at any of the following times: 10am, 12 noon, 2pm and 4pm
