Walled City Music Festival aims for hit

The Walled City Music Festival, which takes place this weekend, is hoping its Sound of Sport programme will be a smash hit with a unique piece of music involving table tennis players.

Players from Fusion Table Tennis Club will accompany the Coull String Quartet for a performance of ‘Ping!’, by Joe Cutler, at the Sports Centre of the University of Ulster, Magee, on Saturday July 19.

Aimed at families, sports and music lovers, this free, fun afternoon runs from 12 noon until 4.15pm at the Sports Centre and will include table-tennis, karate, archery and art workshops.

Local players from Foyle Table Tennis Club, led by Danny Carlin, will offer ‘have a go’ sessions.

The Walled City Music festival runs from Friday until Saturday and the programme includes classical favourites, film and visual art collaborations, and premieres of new works.

All will be performed by a host of world-class musicians, including the Coull String Quartet, Trio Festivale, oboist Nicholas Daniel, violinist Dmitri Sitkovetsky and former Kronos Quartet cellist Jeff Zeigler.

Entry to the Sound of Sport events is free while tickets to other events are on sale now from the Millennium Forum Box Office on Tel: 028 7126 4455 or online at www.millenniumforum.co.uk.

The Walled City Music Festival is funded by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and is partnered by the University of Ulster.
