Anxious One Direction fans were this morning waiting to hear whether tonight’s concert in Belfast will go ahead.
The move comes after the 1D concert at the SSE arena was dramatically cancelled last night just minutes before the band were due on stage.
Dozens of fans had made the trip from Derry and were already seated in the arena when the news was broken to them.
Devastated One Direction fans were told that Liam had taken ill, and while it wasn’t serious, he was unable to perform.
The band has apologised and it’s expected they will make a statement regarding tonight’s concert (Wednesday) later this morning.
Among the devastated One Direction fans were Lucy Carten and Katie Green from Limavady.
The diehard fans had been in Belfast since Tuesday afternoon.
Lucy, 15, said when it was announced in the arena the concert was off, there were tears of disbelief and disappointment.
“I was like ‘no, no, no this can’t be happening. I was so excited about the concert, I couldn’t get to sleep. I couldn’t believe it. It’s devastating.”
Lucy’s mum said her daughter had received the coveted One Direction ticket for Christmas last year.
“She was devastated when the announcement was made,” said Anne. “There were tears.”
Posting on the Derry Journal facebook Mary Hamilton said: “Absolutely shameful, my daughter is waiting a year to see her idols, waited four hours to tell them the concert was cancelled, was it just a coincidence that they had to wait and buy the merchandise first! Why not tell them going in as they knew at 5.30. Disgusted is a polite word I’lll use. Shameful on you one Direction!”
Cathy O’Neill wrote: “Joke. Sitting there since half six. Support came on at half seven til eight. And they only announce at nine that it was cancelled. I have one cried out child in the back of my car.”
