Members of the Campbell family have been ‘Doing it for Don’ to raise funds in memory of their dad Don Campbell.
The family set a challenge of climbing Mount Errigal and, on a beautiful sunny day on Saturday 25th April, 2015, a total of 60 family and friends completed the climb.
“We cannot thank people enough for their generosity in supporting the family through sponsorship and generous donations,” said the family.
“We would also like to thank family members who organised additional fundraising events as well as completing the climb. Our Daddy, Don Campbell, passed away on 17th January, 2015 from a stroke.
“Because he was so good to us and everyone else, we want to give something back”.
The family presented a cheque for £6,602.47 to Valerie Saunders of NI Chest Heart & Stroke.
As well as completing the climb, other family members raised money in different ways.
Bonnie Lynch held a bake sale at her school and Ciaran Shiels is running the Walled City Marathon at the end of May.
Valerie Saunders, Community Fundraising & Marketing Co-ordinator for Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke in said: “Thank you to the Campbell family and supportive friends – their contributions are going to go a long way in the care and prevention of chest, heart and stroke illnesses in Northern Ireland
“It makes us very sad that Don was never able to take part in our stroke schemes but his family and friends are helping other people who attend our stroke schemes in the north-west area.”
