The aunt of a little American girl diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour is hosting a charity event to raise much needed funds for her niece.
Derry woman, Margaret Cunningham, is hosting an Disney themed fancy dress party in her garden tomorrow and all of the money raised will go towards helping her niece with her medical care bills.
“My two daughters and son are very close to their wee cousin Emma so when we heard her awful news we decided we had to do something.
“Emma’s mum, Donna, is from Northern Ireland she is now living with her husband George and two young children in Miami.
“Emma has been back to Derry a few times and she’s just your typical wee five year-old.”
Emma was diagnosed with a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). A DIPG is a tumour located in the middle of the brain stem and often the prognosis can be bad.
“Emma needs everyone’s prayers and her mammy is so thankful to the people of Derry for the support they have shown her.
“One man visited Knock and has requested for a Mass to be said for Emma for everyday for a year.
“Emma receives treatment in New York so it’s a lot of travelling for her parents and older brother Anthony - hopefully the money we raise can go towards making their plight a little easier to cope with,” said Margaret.
