West Brom's James McClean's FA Cup blunder sees wedding booked day before Final

The 26 year-old Republic of Ireland international is getting married the day before the Wembley showpiece and could be faced with a tricky situation should West Brom bag an FA Cup Final spot.

Victory over Championship outfit, Reading, tomorrow in the fifth round tie would mean that FA Cup dream date is a step closer to becoming a reality. But McClean faces opposition from an unlikely source - his wife to be!

The Creggan man has the perfect May mapped out with the ‘Baggies’ avoiding the drop, securing a Wembley Final spot and tying the knot with his longterm girlfriend before flying off to France for the 2016 European Championships with Republic of Ireland.

Ideal Scenario

That’s the ideal scenario - but not for his fiancée, Erin, who has set aside the weekend of May 20th to exchange vows.

So, as McClean lines out against the ‘Royals’ at the Madejski Stadium tomorrow afternoon, his fiancée will have her fingers crossed the ‘Baggies’ get dumped out of the cup to avoid any embarrassing clashes with her nuptials.

“We booked the wedding last year when I was at Wigan for May 20th and the FA Cup Final falls on May 21st, so she’s hoping we get beat every time we play a cup game,” laughed McClean.

“She’s the only person who doesn’t want to see us reach the final. We might have to get married at half-time or after the game, maybe, should we get there,” he joked. “You can imagine when I told her the final was the day after our wedding date - she wasn’t exactly jumping for joy, put it that way. But she understands.

“I’ve a lot to look forward to this summer so, hopefully, it’s a time I can look back on with a lot of happy memories in the future.”
