In the run up to the Westminster general election which takes place on May 7 we asked some voters in Derry to tell us who they are voting for and why.

Q - Who are you voting for and why are you voting for them on May 7?
“I will be voting for Gearóid Ó hEára because of his strong record on delivery for Derry. As someone who has been educated through the medium of Irish since the age of three and who will be graduating as an Irish medium teacher in the coming weeks I cannot commend Gearóid highly enough.
“Gearóid has played a leading role in bringing Irish medium education to Derry and has been instrumental in promoting the Irish language throughout the city through the opening of Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin and through continuous campaigning to deliver an Irish language act.
“Gearóid is also an ambassador for this city and he has put Derry on a worldwide stage and united cultural communities by bringing Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann to Derry and I appreciate he is leading a dedicated team to bring it back to the city in 2017.
“I feel Derry is in dire need of a new fresh active representative who will represent every community in this city and who will deliver for all. So, on May 7 I will be voting for Gearóid Ó hEára because I believe he is the only candidate who has proven that he has delivered and will deliver for everyone equally in this city.”
