Woman and child escape injury in Strabane gun attack

A gun attack on a house in the Ballycolman area of Strabane at the weekend has been described as “indiscriminate and reckless.”

A young woman and child narrowly escaped injury when a number of shots were fired at the back of a bungalow in the estate on Saturday evening.

Strabane Sinn Féin councillor Brian McMahon said: “This was a completely indiscriminate and reckless gun attack. A young child and 22 year-old woman were in the kitchen when shots hit the back door and it is just sheer luck that this did not end in tragedy.

“It is a worrying development that this is the second such gun attack in the town in recent weeks. People do not want this and I would appeal to whoever is engaged in this activity to take a step back and realise that this is not the way to solve any social problems in this community.”
