Woman assaulted in car in Shipquay Street

Police in Derry are appealing for witnesses following an incident that occurred in the Shipquay Street area on the evening of Friday August 19.

At approximately 10.30pm, a woman was assaulted while she was in a car, believed to be a black Vauxhall Corsa. A young male tried to take her car keys but the woman was able to drive away.

A 15 year old male was later arrested in connection with this incident. He has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Constable McKernan said: “We are appealing for anyone, including the victim, who may have witnessed the assault to contact Strand Road Police Station on 101, quoting reference number 1411 of 19/08/16.

“Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
