A young woman injured in a car crash on the main Derry to Buncrana road is in a critical condition, it has been confirmed.
The woman was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital from the scene of the accident in the Fahan area yesterday.
A spokesman for the Western Health and Social Care Trust, which runs the hospital in Derry, has now confirmed that she was transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast later yesterday.
A spokeswoman for the Royal Victoria Hospital meanwhile said this evening (Saturday):
“The lady is with us in the Intensive Care Unit. She is currently in a critical condition.”
It is understood the woman comes from the Inishowen area.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that she was on her way to work in Buncrana on Good Friday when the collision occurred.
Fire-fighters are understood to have had to free her from the vehicle before she could be taken to hospital.
Diversions remained in place following the incident on the R238 road for much of yesterday.
The diversions were put in place at the Halfway House in Tooban and at the Buncrana side of Fahan at Church Brae (pictured).
