A woman in her 30s killed in a car crash yesterday has been named locally as Orla O’reilly. It is understood she was a resident of Muff but originally hailed from County Cavan.

A second man, also from Derry is said to be in a critical condition in Letterkenny general Hospital.

The collision took place near at Killyvery near Newtowncunningham, on the road between Derry and Letterkenny, around 2.20pm on Friday.

A Garda spokesman said the dead man was 32. He has not yet being named.

Reports suggest the driver of at least one other car had a narrow escape – only narrowly avoiding a further collision by taking swift, evasive action.

The road at the centre of the accident investigation was closed overnight whilst the scene was examined.

Last May a woman was killed not far from yesterday’s accident scene when the car she was driving was in collision with a bus.

On that occasion a number of children in the car survived.
