Worker injured after firearms accident at PSNI station

A support worker at Strand Road PSNI station has sustained a hand injury after a gun was accidentally discharged in the station on Thursday of last week.

A police spokesperson said: “Superintendent Garry Eaton, Operations Manager for G District, has confirmed that an internal investigation is being carried out after a firearm was accidentally discharged within Strand Road police station on Thursday. (September 25).

“One person, a member of support staff, sustained a hand injury, which is not believed to be life-threatening.

“As is routine, the Police Ombudsman’s Office has been informed, however, the investigation will be carried out by detectives under the direction of a Detective Chief Inspector,” the spokesperson confirmed.
