A group of Derry dancers are celebrating after collecting an All Ireland line dancing title this past weekend- - and not least Monica Wilson, who lifted the individual title.
In what was Monica’s return to the dance floor after a decade long hiatus, she was delighted to be awarded the Western Dance Association of Ireland trophy. In fact Monica’s dance team, The Legenderry Linedancing Club, also lifted the club trophy at the weekend’s event at Jackson’s Hotel Ballybofey.
Monica told the ‘Journal:’ “I was just buzzing when they called my name out. I expected nothing when they read the singles results out.”
Asked why she thought her return to the dancefloor proved so successful, Monica said: “I gave it lots of energy. For all 18 Derry dancers to collect the club title was just class.”
That routine was chereographed by Shane McKeever.
Monica also thanked her dance teacher Tony Devenney and promised: “I am going to keep at it now. My daughter, Teighan, who’s five, will be coming with me as well.”
