Foyle Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson has welcomed a £2.5 million investment by Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster for the social enterprise sector.
Ms Anderson said she hopes the funding will be used to tackle disadvantage. “The social economy has a crucial role to play in growing a dynamic economy and regenerating disadvantaged communities and this investment is a welcome boost to the sector. The sector provides much needed frontline services particularly in areas of social and economic disadvantage and creates employment opportunities for people who have been economically inactive for a long time. All government departments must now recognise the positive contribution social enterprises make to the economy and local communities in order to maximise the governmental support,” she said.
