Foyle MP Mark Durkan has called on the British government to do more to protect bakers from developing asthma.
The SDLP leader signed a motion at Westminster this week backing a campaign for more protection for those in the baking industry.

“Bakers are particularly at risk, especially those who work with flour for long periods,” he said. “I am concerned that bakers are about 80 times more likely to develop occupational asthma than the average worker due to such exposure.

“I am also extremely concerned that thousands of bakers could be at risk of developing an incapacitating respiratory condition as a result of such exposure,” he said.
