A high-powered delegation of US investors will visit Derry later this month, Foyle Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson has announced.
The visit to the city is designed to coincide with the major economic investment conference which will be held in Belfast.

Pat Doherty, the director of investment from the New York City Comptroller's office has already been confirmed as one of tho
se who will visit Derry. The comptroller's office pledged $150 million for the North last month.

Ms Anderson said Sinn Féin lobbied Mr Doherty to visit the city to look at opportunities for investment here. "As an MLA for Foyle, I felt it was crucial that these investors also visit Derry in order to witness the huge potential for investment in the North West region.

"I am happy to confirm that following representation from Sinn Féin, the New York City Comptroller has agreed to send a representative to the city to meet with local stakeholders with a view to exploring investment opportunities in the city and greater North West region. Pat Doherty, the director of investment from the New York Comptroller's Office will be travelling to the city on Saturday, 10th May," she said.

The Foyle MLA also said she is confident that other major figures from the US business world will visit Derry also. "We are continuing to encourage other investors to ensure they take this opportunity to visit Derry and the North West. We expect over the coming period to have confirmation that others will be in attendance," she said.

Ms Anderson said the visit of the US investors could "revolutionise" the local economy. "I am certain that this intervention represents the greatest chance in generations for the North West to showcase this region to investors who have the potential to revolutionise our economic fortunes and we need to seize it with both hands.

"I will also be contacting local stakeholders over the coming days to brief them on our plans and invite them to attend this important event," she said.

As a city we need to grasp this opportunity .Since the Stand up for Derry campaign has been going there seems to have been a change in peoples attitude here about getting out there and getting things done rather than hanging about waiting on someone else to do it for us and not what has been done in past “Knowing our place” and keeping quiet
