Buncrana

Buncrana GAA Club would like to offer their sincere condolences to John Friel and family, Urris, on the death of his mother.

Buncrana GAA Fun Camp for six to 14 year-olds is just one month away now. It will be held in the Scarvey from Monday, August 3rd to Friday, August 7th from 10.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year’s camp will include a range of activities designed to stimulate learning, teamwork and skills for children in this age group. Places can be booked by emailing buncrana.pro@gmail.com or by contacting Paul on 0879293134.

Lottos are currently being sold to homes throughout the parish, all sellers will be wearing authorisation cards. The club would like to thank all those who purchased lottos which will help fund various club activities from U8 football and hurling to adult levels.

The U10 footballers recorded a fine win against Newtown in the northern board finals on Saturday. Playing Newtown in both Section two and four finals in the Buncrana boys won both games. This was a very enjoyable day for players and spectators with some fine football skills on display. A special word of praise must go to the players’ mothers who provided refreshments for all the teams and supporters.

There will be a blitz for this side tomorrow (Saturday) in Malin leaving the pitch at 10 a.m. All parents are encouraged to come along and offer support.

The U14 footballers hosted Dromintee from Armagh in a highly entertaining friendly on Saturday. The lads gave a good account of themselves against a good Orchard county side.

The U14 hurlers booked their place in the Championship final with a fine win over local rivals Burt. The lads put on a fine display winning comfortably by 3-12 to 0-2. They play Ballyshannon in the final.

Congratulations to Daniel Wilson, Stephen Nelson, Michael Farrell, Donal Mac Lochlainn, Jack O’Loughlin, John Campbell who played in Croke Park on Tuesday with the Donegal development panel. The club also had the honour of having Conor Grant as captain of the team. This is a massive boost for hurling development in the club.

The U10 hurlers fielded two teams in the blitz in Burt on Sunday, and this side played nine games, winning eight and drawing just one. This side remains unbeaten this year.

Congratulations to Patrick Wilson who played at half-time in the Ulster hurling final.

Burt

The U12 footballers were denied a place in the Donegal Division One Championship final last Monday evening in Newtown after losing 2-10 to 1-11 to defending champions St Eunan's.

It was the U12s first defeat since the middle of last year. After St Eunan’s took the lead with a goal with five minutes remaining, Burt battled back to create chances and level the game. In the final seconds of the match, Burt hit the underside of the crossbar which was the last action of the game.

Despite the defeat, it was Burt's best performance of the year so far. Many congratulations to St Eunan's on reaching the final.

The GAA Cl camp is in Burt from next Monday, July 6th to Friday, July 10th. Cost is E65 per child, with each additional family member E50. Contact Damian Dowds for details on 087 7811072. Anybody who has filled out forms with payment should give it to a club member as soon as possible or any of the underage coaches.

The Burt GAA Club and all its members extend their condolences to CLG Iorras and all the family and friends of Annie Friel, Urris who passed away last week.

The senior hurlers travelled to Ballyshannon last Wednesday where they defeated a poor Aodh Ruadh outfit 0-32 to 0-8.

On Sunday they made the long trip to Lisbellaw in the Ulster league where they were defeated 5-12 to 1-13. That defeat means Burt miss out on reaching the Ulster league semi-finals.

The U14 footballers played Malin twice last week in the Northern Board league and the Inishowen league. Both games were tight affairs with Burt winning both 1-11 to 1-8 in the NB league and 1-13 to 2-8 in the Inishowen league. They play at home against Carn in the Inishowen league today (Friday).

Burt were defeated by a good Buncrana side in the U14 Donegal hurling Championship semi-final last Thursday evening. It was a poor performance from the Burt boys but as always they will bounce back and prepare again for next year.

Convoy defeated the minor footballers in the NB league last Friday by two points, 3-15 to 6-4.

There was no winner of the lotto jackpot last week. Mary Campbell, Burt won E40. The numbers drawn were - 5, 3, 1, 7, 6, 2, 4. Next week’s jackpot is E1,900.

An U10 football blitz is on tomorrow (Saturday) in Moville with throw-in at 11 a.m. All players and parents will be notified of arrangements beforehand. Underage training continues for U12 and U14 players tomorrow morning from 10.30 a.m. to 12 noon.

Congratulations to the Donegal senior hurlers who will play Tyrone in the Lory Meagher cup final in Croke Park on Saturday, July 11th. Throw-in for the All-Ireland final is 12 noon.

Commiserations to the club’s U14 camogie team who lost narrowly to Castleblaney in the Ulster Community Games final. The girls had been seeking their third title in a row.

Congratulations to Denver Kelly and Charles McDaid who won silver at the National Athletics championships in Tipperary on Saturday. Congratulations also to Ryan Doherty (Goose) who played at half-time during the Ulster senior hurling final between Antrim and Down on Sunday. And finally congratulations to the U12 Aileach team who won the Inishowen Division One league on Sunday.

Underage hurling training is on every Monday from 6.30 p.m. to 7.45 p.m. for U8s up to U12s and the U14 camogie team. Everybody must bring E1 for training and everyone is reminded to bring helmets and other equipment. All underage players must arrive at pitch for 6.25 p.m.

Carndonagh

The seniors had no game last weekend. Training continues as usual on Monday and Thursday evenings.

Carn minors progressed to the final of the Inishowen minor competition when they defeated Malin in Foden last Thursday evening. Eanna Newton sustained an injury in the first few minutes of the game, however, both teams went on to gave the spectators plenty to cheer about as they battled for possession and scores. At half-time they were level.

In the second period, Carn, despite some wayward passing managed to create more chances and finished the game four points ahead. The club wishes Eanna a speedy recovery.

The U10 hurlers travelled to Burt on Sunday morning to compete in the monthly blitz. Once again it was very successful with the boys getting four games of hurling.

On Friday evening the U12 camogie girls travelled to Letterkenny for the first U12 blitz. It was disappointing in that a number of the players failed to show on the evening. It was a successful evening with games taking place and was enjoyed by those that attended.

The U12 and U16 hurling league begins on Thursday, July 9th with the U12 hurlers playing Burt in Foden while the U16 hurlers travel to Burt. All games are scheduled for 7.30 p.m.

Congratulations to Conor McCormick and Danny Monagle who were part of the Donegal U14 hurling development squad who travelled to Croke Park on Tuesday to play in a blitz.

The GAA summer camp takes place in Foden from July 13th-17th. The GAA hurling/camogie only camp takes place from August 17th-21st.

The U14 girls football team played Burt last Thursday evening. It was their last game in the league and they had to win to have a chance of going through to the next round and Carn came out on top with 5-2 to Burt's 2-3. Scorers for Carn were - Cliodhna Canny (3-0), Louise and Simone McLaughlin (both 1-0); Simone and Trudi McLaughlin (both 0-01).

The girls will have to wait until all the clubs have finished their games to know whether the team have enough points to get into the County B semi-final or perhaps have a playoff with another club to qualify.

Training will continue on Tuesdays at 6.30 p.m. and Saturdays at 11 a.m.

The winning numbers in the club mini-lotto were - 6, 19, 16, 20 and 21. There was no jackpot winner. The E75 went to Margaret Crossan, Ard Colgan, Carn. E30 to Keelan Doherty, 15 Clos Padraig, Carn. E15 to Anne Marie Duffy, Isle of Doagh, Kathleen Doherty (Hela), Quigley’s Point and Kathleen Doherty, 66 Ard Colgan, Carn. The jackpot next week is E5,000 and the draw will be held in the Sportsman’s.

Malin

The senior side won their first away game in the 2009 league campaign on Sunday, defeating St Naul’s in Mountcharles by 3-11 to 1-9. St Naul’s had led by five points to one before Malin took control to run out comfortable winners, goals from Michael Doherty (2) and Conor Farren helping them on their way.

Malin now have eight points from eight games with half the season completed, should they collect the same from the second half of the season then they should not be far away from a promotion place.

The reserves were defeated in their game against St Naul’s.

The Junior B side recorded a good win over Ardara on Saturday evening in Division Five of the All County League.

The minors were defeated by Carndonagh in the Inishowen semi-final on Thursday evening while the U12 A and B sides both lost to Burt at home on Tuesday evening.

The club wishes a speedy recovery to U12 player Tomas McLaughlin (Fildara) who broke his arm recently.

The club are holding a sports day on Sunday, August 9th with proceeds going to Duchene Muscular Dystrophy.

U8 training on Sunday mornings has stopped for the summer and will resume when the schools re-open.

Gym membership is now available at E100 per year per person or E170 for family membership. Anyone wanting to join the gym must do an induction with Charlie Byrne, Charlie can be contacted on 087 4103782.

This year’s VHI summer camp takes place in Malin from Monday, July 20th to Friday, July 24th. This is an enjoyable week for children aged seven to 13 years-old, boys and girls. It consists of four days coaching with coaches from all over the county and a sports day on the Friday where each child will receive their kit and bag. The cost for the week is E65 for the first child and E50 for each additional child in a family while a bus will be available throughout the parish. There was no winner of this week’s lotto jackpot. The sequence drawn was - 6, 4, 3, 1, 2, 7, 5. Tony “Tinney” Doherty Buncrana, won the E50 prize with the E20 sellers prize going to Seamus Doherty, Malin Head. Next week’s jackpot is E1,450.

Finally, congratulations to Liam O’Neill who turned 40 last week.

Moville

Both the senior ladies and men’s teams had important wins at the weekend. The ladies started their defence of their county title with a victory over last year’s runners up Glenfin in Carrick on Sunday afternoon. Moville built up a commanding lead but let the visitors back into the game in the second half, however they still emerged convincing winners with fine displays from Leonie Furlong, Niamh Hegarty and Anita Doherty.

Moville now progress to play the winners of Termon v St Michael’s in the semi-final.

The men’s senior team travelled to league leaders Lifford on Sunday in a top of the table battle. Malachy McDermott with a return of 1-7 was the star for Moville, but the whole defensive unit of Enda Faulkner, Gearoid McQuillan, Tony McGeady, Conor O’Donnell and Seamus and Anton Hegarty put in many fine blocks and tackles to thwart the Lifford attacks as Moville ran out convincing winners on a score of 1-17 to 0-6. The reserve team went down to a strong Lifford side.

The U14 girls also recorded a good win during the week as they overcame Urris with good displays from Kathy McLaughlin and Alana Furlong.

The annual GAA Cl camp will take place in Carrick from July 20th-24th. The cost is E65 for the first child and E50 for any subsequent child. Application forms and enquiries should be made to club youth officer Heather Norris on 086 8365656 or 9382052.

There will be an U10 football blitz in Carrick tomorrow with the games getting underway at 11 a.m.

Girls underage training for all age groups takes place every Monday at 6 p.m.

There is a wide selection of club gear available from treasurer Bridget Harkin. There is a reduction on the price of adult polo shirts to E30 while stocks last.

The county minors, including Moville’s Enda Faulkner, bowed out of the Ulster championship at Clones on Saturday evening.

Joe McGeady was the E50 winner in the weekly lotto. Winning numbers were - 5, 6, 2, 7, 4, 3, 1. Next week’s jackpot will be E1,300. The golf classic draw also took place on Monday evening and the results were as follows - 1st prize, Jimmy Friel Milford;2nd prize, Manus Harley, Buncrana; 3rd prize, Marie Higgins, 11 Ballyboes.

Naomh Colmcille

Pride of place goes to the club’s U16 team that won the County Division Three title in MacCumhaills Park on Sunday after an excellent team performance against a determined Naomh Columba side. Congratulations to all players, mentors and supporters.

The seniors played extremely well and fully deserved the two point victory against a fancied Milford side at home on Sunday. Training continues every Tuesday and Thursday at 8 p.m. All new players very welcome.? ?

Naomh Colmcille U10s A and B teams played well in the Blitz final on Saturday last, but lost out to two strong Buncrana teams. ? ?The Under-14s are at home to Urris, meeting at 6.30 p.m.? ?Rory McMenamin Memorial evening will take place tomorrow (Saturday) when a Gaelic football match and Night at the Races will take place in Pirc Colmcille with proceeds donated to the oncology unit in Letterkenny Hospital. All welcome to come along and support.

This month’s 150 club winners were - E300 Phonsie and Linda Barr, E200 Tina and William Duffy, E100 Peter and Jackie Barr.

The numbers drawn in last week’s lotto draw were - 1, 5, 7, 4, 3, 6 and 2. There was no jackpot winner, however, four runner-up prizes of E25 went to - Robert Hegarty, C/o Rock Bar; Rosie and Liam McMahon, Dublin; Donal McColgan, Cutt Road; Aoife and Daire McPeake, C/o Point Lodge.

The seniors hosted Naomh Ultan in a league encounter at Ture on Saturday evening winning by Naomh Pdraig 2-12, Naomh Ultan 1-6.

Urris

CLG Iorras would like to extend its deepest sympathy to the family of Annie Friel on her passing last week, especially to Danny and John and their families, who are and have been such great stalwarts of the club over the years.

Also to the family of Daniel McGilloway on his tragic death. Daniel was a brother of Paddy, the club’s U14 goalie and Francis who was formerly the club’s Ladies’ team goalkeeper.

May he rest in peace.

No tickets are required for the Donegal v Carlow match tomorrow evening. Patrons can pay at the turnstile on the night. Children U16 are admitted free if you are thinking of travelling the support the County team.

A manager is needed for the boys’ U13 team and help is also required with the U10s on a weekly basis. If you are interested in giving a hand please let David or Paul know as soon as possible.

This year’s Summer Camp will run from Monday, July 6th until Friday, July 10th inclusive. Cost of the camp remains the same as last year with the first child in a family costing E65 and E50 per child thereafter. Places can be booked by contacting John Friel or David Hession.

The U16 boys will play Naomh Colmcille in the County Division Two Championship this evening (Friday) at 7.30 p.m.

The Minors will also be back in action in the County Championship with Malin as their opponents. This is a two leg fixture with a deciding leg if needed. The first match will be in Malin on Monday, July 13th at 7.30 p.m. The lads are asked to stay in contact with Michael or Mark to find out about training and travel arrangements.

There is still no word on the U12 girl’s next match but David will let the girls know as soon as he finds out. There will be training for the team this evening (Friday) from 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. All the girls are asked to make the effort to attend.

The U16 girls should contact John for details of fixtures and training over the coming week.

The U14 girls will play Muff on Monday evening with the bus leaving from Straid at 5.45 p.m.

The U10s will travel to Moville tomorrow (Saturday) for the second blitz of the year. The bus will leave from Straid at 10 a.m. Children should bring a snack and a change of clothes in case of bad weather.

The Match and Win wasn’t drawn this week because of the cancellation of club activities over the weekend.
