Back-to-back victories puts Strabane top of table

Sunday’s rain meant the abandonment of two of the three Ulster Cup ties and one of the two re-arranged league fixtures but with Saturday’s dismal showing in the second round of the Bob Kerr Irish Senior Cup, it was an instantly forgettable weekend for all but a handful of local sides.

Going into the weekend no fewer than seven North West teams were left in the country’s premier cup competition and three more in the all-Northern Ireland tournament but by Sunday evening that was down to just one in each.

Worse still the game between Limavady and Instonians was abandoned in controversial circumstances although the home club is vehemently denying any wrong doing; that issue is now with Cricket Ireland to investigate.

On the league front, Strabane took full advantage of their opportunity to move clear at the top of the Billy Henderson league with wins at Fox Lodge and Eglinton over the two days.
