THE North-West cricket season got underway on Saturday and the glorious weather ensured that good crowds turned out to watch the action and they witness no shortage of drama as the opening day unfolded.

Champions Strabane were brought down to earth with a bump as Donemana caused the first surprise of the campaign while new boys Bond’s Glen put up a brave show before losing to Limavady.

Coleraine edged out Eglinton in a thriller while Glendermott scored plenty of runs at Bready but still came away with nothing. Brigade were also big winners as they outfought a strong Fox Lodge side to get the cup holders’ season off to a winning start.
