DERRY CITY: Take a punt on us - says Conor McCormack

City midfielder Conor McCormack is brimming with confidence following his stunning strike in last weekend’s 2-1 win at Wexford and the Carlingford native isn’t buying into the notion that an air of invincibility surrounds the ‘Lilywhites’ who are seeking three league titles on the spin.

Oriel Park hasn’t been a happy haunting ground for Derry in recent years but McCormack, who got sent off in the last meeting between the sides in Dundalk’s 2-0 win at Brandywell last August, insists Stephen Kenny’s men are not invincible.

In fact, victory tonight would put Kenny Shiels’ side three points clear on the summit, so there’s a huge incentive as Derry attempt to stretch their winning run to five games.

McCormack has been looking forward to this match against his local club since the fixtures were released and he’s hoping to upset the odds.

“I’m looking forward to it especially as Dundalk have won the league the last two seasons and are in good form again this season,” said the midfielder. “But we’re also in good form and, hopefully, it will be a good match and we can come away with a good result.

“Many people have had us as underdogs in games already this season and we’re going in on Friday as underdogs again which suits us better. We’ll be well up for the task and you never know what might happen,” hemaintained.

“We prefer going in as underdogs. No one is expecting us to do anything. We’ve caught a lot of teams by surprise this season. Cork came up and thought they were going to push us over and didn’t and we deserved the win. We’ve fully deserved every win we’ve had this season.”
