Derry down to 'bare bones' for Dundalk trip
DERRY City will be hit hard on the injury and suspension front as Stephen Kenny prepares his troops for a trip to Oriel Park's new synthetic surface this Friday night with no fewer than six first team players already ruled out.
Long-term injuries to Liam Kearney and Barry Molloy has been compounded with the news that Clive Delaney, Steven Gray and Gareth McGlynn will also miss the game due to suspension. Add in the fact that Kevin Deery, who tweaked his calf muscle while going for a leisurely run when on holiday in Spain last week, is another absentee and the Derry boss is not without his difficulties.
"We'll be travelling with six 'front liners' absent," confirmed Kenny. "But we have players capable of coming in to provide adequate cover."
He went on: "It's basically a case of us rallying around each other again in an effort to get the right result and I've no doubt the players will do that.
"On the bright side, Tommy Stewart, has returned to action following his run-out in Peter Hutton's testimonial game on Sunday and I'm delighted about that," concluded Kenny.
