When Ryan McElhinney, Conor Murphy and Kevin Hinphey put Dungiven 0-3 to 0-1 ahead inside six minutes - Ciaran McFaul had levelled in the 2nd minute - they gave the impression that they just might give Glen a tight game but that proved an illusion as Glen dominated the rest of the half, with a 16 to 6 midfield success statistic.

Dungiven’s fourth point did not come until the 30th minute when Kevin Johnston pointed but by that stage the superb Emmett Bradley had pointed a 40m free, and then another from closer range before putting Glen 0-4 to 0-3 ahead from play in the 18th minute.

Bradley finished the half with 0-6 (3 frees), Stevie O’Hara and full back Phillip O’Connell also on target as Glen powered to a 0-8 to 0-4 interval lead.

Within seven minutes of the restart O’Hara from 60m and Bradley twice - once from a 40 metre free- had dissected the posts for 0-11 to 0-4.

Johnston and substitute Kevin Boyle scored Dungiven points either side of one from Glen replacement Conor Convery, Kevin Hinphey and Danny Tallon from a free leaving six between the sides going into the final quarter.

With Dungiven not committing enough players to attack and Glen posting a sweeper in front of their two defenders in the full back line, Dungiven struggled to create scoring chances.

But 10 minutes from time there was a glimmer of hope for St. Canice’s when Johnston and Hinphey worked the ball to Davy McLaughlin and he finished in style to cut the lead to 0-13 to 1-7.

But again that was another false dawn as Tallon, substitute Ryan Winton and Stevie O’Hara, from 50 metres, put the result beyond doubt, McElhinney from a free and Convery exchanging points in the last five minutes.
