Doire Colmcille - Club membership is now due and details can be found on the club website, including the form itself for download. For underage children, parents should speak to the respective coaches if they have any queries.

The minors played their first game of the season on Sunday against Dungiven and although for the players it was a dissappointing result, coach Brian Duffy can take a number of positives from the game. With a limited panel available the Under 16s helped to make up the team and contributed to a good team spirit. Individually the stand-out players on the day were Daz Matharu and Darren Quinn who dominated the half-back line and helped set up some great passages of play. It is important that all players turn out for training on Tuesday and Thursday and help improve on this performance for the next game.

The minor panel are currently training on Thursdays (indoor) at St. Columb’s from 6.15 pm to 7.15pm. All senior players are welcome to attend this circuit class. Aany queries please contact Brian Duffy on 07909717703.

The under 14 boys played Limavady on Sunday and although the team hadn’t played a match before this, all the signs were very promising for coaches Robbie and Matt who, on reflection, were very impressed by some of the football. Limavady proved too strong on Sunday but they had to battle right to the end as this new U14 team led by Ryan Watkins didn’t give up. Well done to Colm McAnaney for an excellent point and an excellent performance in nets by Oisin.

Underage training schedule is as follows: Tuesdays, St. Columbs College (indoor) from 6pm-6.45pm for Under 6 (nursery); From 6.45pm-7.45pm for Under 8 and 10 boys and girls; From 7.30pm-8.45pm for Under 12 and 14 boys as well as Under 13 and 15 girls;

Saturdays, St.Columbs College (outdoor) from 11.00am to 12.30pm for Under 10 & 12 boys and girls and Under 14 boys; from 11.15am for under 16 boys.

There will be regular updates on training times and venues on the Doire Colmcille facebook page so we would encourage all parents and club members where appropriate to join up. If anyone would like to have anything added to these club notes they should contact Robby Doherty on 07808568613.

All under 8s will return to Saturday morning (outdoor) training on Saturday, March 24th at Leafair 3G pitch. The Brian Ogs U14 ‘B’ team played Foreglen on Sunday in the Feile, losing 1-05 to 0-04. This was the first outing of the year for this squad and they produced a very good second half performance after a slow start. ‘Man of the Match’ Ciaran Concannon was supported by a very good full-back line of Oran Harkin, Gavin Hegarty and Micael Salmon.

Steelstown minors exited the Carlin-Duffy Cup at a windswept Oakgrove on Sunday. This was their first competitive outing of the year and there were many areas in need of improvement, none more so than in the shooting department where Craigbane’s Ryan Moore gave a brilliant exhibition of point-taking. Defensively, Brian Ógs had good performances from James Morrison, Rory Kehoe, Ciaran Flanagan and Ronan Campbell. Terry Melaugh broke even at midfield but a succession of wasted chances up front, resulted in a lob-sided result.

Steelstown minor ladies kicked off their new season with a victory over a courageous Faughanvale team on Sunday at Templemore. The opening half was very tight with the Faughanvale keeper making a string of superb saves that meant his team went into the break four points up. The city girls came out with renewed energy in the second half and got a couple of goals which set a precedent for the second half as Steelstown run out eventual winners. As a lot of the girls in blue and gold played well but special mention has to go to Roisin Laverty who was splendid in the first half, Aoife McKeever who saved two penalties and Eimear O Doherty who bagged a couple of goals. Well done girls! Next up is a very tough away game at Ballinascreen. Can all players meet at the club on Sunday at 10.00am sharp for bus and bring £3.

Well done to those who represented Brian Ógs in the Scór last weekend. Congratulations to Eoghan Mag Uiginn in the solo singing, the Seana Heraghty School of Dance group, the quiz team of Cathal Harkin, Brendan Doherty and Fearghal Mac Uiginn and the recitation from the latter. The dancers, quiz team and recitation solo performance by Fearghal all progress to the county final next Sunday at Glenullin.

Banagher U14s opened their Feile na nOg Section ‘B’ account with a win over Doire Trasna at Fr. McNally Park. Playing against the wind in the first half, Banagher moved the ball well and denied Trasna any real chances. Liam Eoin Campbell picked up the ball in midfield and the breaking ball fell to Niall Moore in the full forward line who side-stepped the keeper and calmly placed the ball in the net which saw Banagher go into the interval 1-2 to 0-1 ahead. In the second half Trasna came out with more urgency and pulled a couple of points back. Banagher were missing one of their key backs in Conan Logue but great performances from Conor Murphy, Conor Campbell and Paul Murphy in the back line meant that Trasna chances were few. Cathal O’Kane challenged every ball and was reponsible for breaking down the Trasna midfield. Banagher responded with two more points from Tiarnan Moore and Campbell before referee Gregory McWilliams brought the game to an end. Banagher 1-5; Doire Trasna 0-4. This was an all round team performance with everyone giving 100%.

Banagher Minor footballers had their first outing of the year when they took on St. Michael’s in the first round of the Carlin/Duffy Cup. Banagher were awarded a penalty in the opening minutes and Peter Hagan’s shot registered their first point. Banagher dominated and despite wasting plenty of chances ended the first half with a healthy lead of 2-8 to 1-1, the goals coming from Conor Mc Grellis and Peter Hagan. Banagher went into the second half with wind advantage and continued to produce a solid performance. Hagan added a second goal with three of the substitutes, Shane Campbell, Odhran Hasson and Conor Devine, accounting for the other three goals. The game ended 6-16 to 2-1.
