Clann na nGael
Training for men’s Senior and Reserve players continues on Tuesday and Thursdays at 7.30 p.m. in Aughabrack.
The men’s Senior team entertained Urney St. Colmcille’s in Dunamanagh on Saturday last in Division two of the Tyrone A.C.L. The home side has been scrambling for positive results for most of the year in an effort to stay afloat and, prior to this game, there were signs that things were beginning to improve.
This belief was further enhanced as, after a hard fought 60 minutes, Clann na nGael collected the two league points on offer with a 2-13 to 1-8 victory.
The game began badly for the home side who, for the second weekend in a row, conceded a goal in the opening exchanges. They were able to cancel that score out, however, within 10 minutes as Patrick Conwell (Balix) converted a penalty after Dominic Devine was fouled.
The hosts dominated the game for the remainder of the half but failed to drive home their advantage on the scoreboard as they turned around 1-7 to 1-4 in front when in truth the lead should have been greater.
The visitors improved after the break and closed to within a point before the introduction of Brian Dooher and Stephen O’Neill from the substitute’s bench helped crush their spirited resistance.
A second goal with five minutes remaining from the unlikely source of Patrick Conwell (Barron) killed the game as a contest. He found himself in an unusually advanced position but netted in composed fashion.
Special mention is also due for the exploits of Gary Devine who bagged two excellent scores from long range to put the gloss on a committed and gutsy display.
Meanwhile the Reserve team was unable to build on victory over Galbally Pearses in their last league encounter as they succumbed to defeat on a scoreline of 2-9 to 0-12.
The Senior team will enter the Power N.I. Tyrone Intermediate Championship fray on Friday, August 17th against local rivals Gortin St. Patrick’s with the game scheduled to take place at Healy Park, Omagh, throw-in 7pm.

Training for Under-16 boys continues on Saturdays at 5pm in Aughabrack. The boys were defeated by Aghyaran St. Davog’s on Wednesday, August 1st in the league semi-final. Despite their best efforts the opposition proved too strong as they won by 5-12 to 2-6.
They are scheduled to host Killeeshil St. Mary’s in the Championship in Aughabrack on Thursday, August 16th, throw-in 7.30pm.
Training for Under-14 boys continues on Tuesday evenings at 7pm in Aughabrack.
