With the winner meeting Slaughtneil and the loser taking on Craigbane it was going to be difficult to gauge how the teams would view the replay at Glen.
To their credit both fought tooth and nail to get the better of each other and in the end it was goals by Eoin and Paddy Bradley that won the game. Wasteful Loup will look back on 11 wides and two spurned goal chances but over the hour Glenullin were sharper and more compose in front of goal.
Loup complicated their attacks by kicking into corners and playing the ball back out again and by the time they had made their minds made up, Glenullin were back in numbers.
On the other hand Glenullin were much more direct, they used their danger men well and it was well orchestrated goals in either half by Eoin and Paddy Bradley that won the game.
When the winners were 1-3 to 0-01 in front midway through the first half it looked bad for Loup but they hit the next four points to get back into the game.
Eighteen minutes into the second half they were trailing by a goal when Paddy Bradley steered the ball to the net from a tight angle with Loup keeper Thomas Mallon in no man’s land.
However Loup do not fold easily and for the last ten minutes they virtually owned the ball and, amid a string of missed chances, cut the gap to two points.
Three minutes from the end Paddy Bradley showed his quality when he roved out and took possession some 50m from goal. With Loup pushing men forward Bradley did what Loup were failing to do and stuck the ball between the posts finishing with a direct run and a splendid right foot finish.
Glenullin now go the direct route and take on a strong Slaughtneil team in the next round. Loup will go the scenic route but must be fancied to get the better of struggling Craigbane in the next round.
