Two minutes into added time the outstanding Michael Bateson knocked over the equalising point but Dungiven spurned a glorious chance to snatch a dramatic win when Darrel O’Kane pulled the ball wide from 20m on the right just on the final whistle.

Dungiven had the advantage of the wind in the first half but wasted several scoring chances through wides and lost possession in scoring positions when carrying the ball into tackles.

With James McNicholl raiding from wing-back Dungiven led 0-03 to 0-01 after Kevin Sweeney pointed a first minute free. Twice they led by three points, 0-05 to 0-02 and 0-06 to 0-03, but the Dungiven defence opened up like the Red Sea as Niall Sweeney raced through unchallenged but pulled the ball wide from 10m midway through the half. Four minutes from half time Eamon Burke bulged the net to give Newbridge a 1-05 to 0-06 interval lead.

Dungiven should have taken the lead 30 seconds into the second half when Conor Murphy was one-on-one with the keeper but he sent his low shot the wrong side of the post.

Darrel O’Kane scored three excellent points from difficult frees inside the first 10 minutes of the second period to put the home side 0-10 to 1-05 ahead.
