Late Lavey burst defeats Banagher

Lavey came with three late points to snatch a dramatic victory in a game that looked set for extra time.

Twelve minutes into the half Gavan O’Neill took a pass from Brian Og McGilligan and put Banagher 0-02 to 0-01 ahead. From the kick out Lavey put together a sweeping passing movement that ended with Kevin McCloy crossing the ball towards Paul Hearty and he palmed it calmly to the back of the net.

Banagher came back with a Mark Lynch free and when, 12 minutes from half time, Eunan Murphy scored from the right the scores were tied at 0-04 to 1-01 but again O’Boyle was on target to open up a two point lead in the 25th minute.

Banagher finished the half with a two point burst from Mark Lynch and one from Peter Hagan to send them in at the break 0-07 to 1-03 in the lead.

Banagher led by three until until Niall Toner played in O’Boyle in the 42nd minute and he dispatched the ball to the net with aplomb to level the scores at 0-09 to 2-03. Caolan O’Boyle boosted Lavey with a stupendous point from 50m to put Lavey back in front.

Eight barren minutes followed until Eunan Murphy scored a magnificent point from the left wing. Two minutes of added time were signalled, extra time looking likely until Toner, Kevin O’Neill and O’Boyle snatched victory in a three minute burst.
