Slaughtmanus 1-09, Craigbane 0-11
Slaughtmanus are in the Derry Intermediate Championship final after an Adrian O’Kane point two minutes from time secured a shock semi-final win over favourites Craigbane at Celtic Park.
O’Kane’s superb score capped a brilliant 60 minutes from St. Nary’s in which they were barely recognisable from the team that scraped past Ballerin in the Quarter-finals. There was little between the teams throughout a game which saw the lead change hands on several occasions.
In a tight first half, there was never more than one point between the sides until the game’s only goal which came courtesy of David Quigg who found himself on the end of a flowing move in the 25th minute. After working the wall out from the back, Gavin McShane fed Chris Deery whose pass inside was perfect to pick out the run of Quigg. He gathered and finished superbly to put his side 1-5 to 0-5 up, a lead they took into the break.
The second half started with a brace of Lee Moore points but for every gauntlet Craigbane threw down, Slaughtmanus responded in style, even without Kevin King who missed the game due to holidays.
Trailing by one point as the game entered its final 10 minutes, O’Kane equalised before grabbing the headlines with two minutes left when he scored his second of the game to put St Mary’s into the final. It was a dramatic finale to a fantastic game.
