AFTER MONTHS of trying to separate the top six teams in Division One of the Long’s SuperValu League, the respective clubs head into the final scheduled week of the season with the equation now quite simple - Donemana have two games left, against Coleraine on Saturday and Brigade on Sunday and while both matches are on their own patch, neither would be considered a “gimme!”

Should they win both - Donemana will be crowned champions. If they fail in one of them and Bready defeat Fox Lodge at Ballymagorry on Saturday (no gimmie either), we’re down to a tie-breaker and it’s much too complicated to go into if they both lose!

It was an action-packed weekend and Donemana would surely have had the title all wrapped up by now were it not for a nail-biting three run defeat at Fox Lodge on Saturday. The Holm side got back on track with an emphatic win at home to Strabane on Sunday thereby ending the Red Caps’ interest in the title race after they also lost to Brigade at the weekend.

The outgoing champions are actually the league’s form team at the minute and completed another two back-to-back wins when accounting for Coleraine on Sunday despite at one stage being 26 for 6 in that one. It was an awful weekend for the ‘Bannsiders’ who went into the penultimate series of matches in joint top spot but lost twice, against Glendermott and Brigade. All of that meant that there was no change in the race to avoid the 8th place play-off spot, Fox Lodge currently playing their outstanding T20 fixture against Creevedonnell before heading into the telling finale on Saturday.
